Quicklet On Louisa May Alcott's Little Women

ABOUT THE BOOKLike many young girls, I related to the character of Jo. Always feeling like a bull in a china shop or slightly out of place, it gave me hope that Jo had found her place in the world, and not finding her place in the world, she went out and conquered her world as a writer. As an aspiring writer myself, I came back again and again to get encouragement from the ",irascible", Jo.Years later, when I see the copy of ",Little Women", on my shelf, I think back to myself as a young person, trying to find out who I was, and how I fit in. I remember how reading aboutJo's courage helped me know that I would be okay.MEET THE AUTHORLisa Zadok is a professional writer, blogger, and playwright living in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is also a Featured Contributor for Yahoo! TV. Lisa's one-act plays have been performed across the country, including the Estrogenius Festival in New York. Lisa holds a BA in English and Comparative Literature, and has a strong belief in the ability of the written word to change the world for good. When she isn't writing, Lisa is running after a very fast toddler.EXCERPT FROM THE BOOKMeg has a better time than Jo at the dance, but her shoes are too tight and the heels are too high. As a result, she rolls her ankle and sprains it while dancing. Laurie is very gracious and escorts the girls home in his carriage.Soon after the dance, Laurie is taken ill.Jo resolves to go visit and care for him as she can see that he is shut up all alone in a big house. She cheers Laurie up immensely, and finally meets Mr. Laurence, who is fond of Jo's bluntness and straight-forward manner.Mr. Laurence gets to meet the whole March family, he is particularly fond of Beth and he invites her to play the piano any time in his home. Later, he gives her a piano of her very own. Each of the girls has small adventures in which their character is tested. Amy is discovered smuggling pickled limes into school. It is the fashion for girls to trade limes. For this transgression, Amy is hit across her hands and made to stand in front of her class for fifteen minutes. As a result of this punishment, which Mrs. March believes is unjust, Amy is schooled at home.Buy a copy to continue reading!
